HandScan AI is a free online tool that estimates the biological age of your hands from a single photo, using the same skin-aging markers dermatologists assess: skin texture, sun-related pigmentation, vein and tendon prominence, collagen-related firmness, and nail condition.
Most people invest in their facial skincare — sunscreen, retinol, moisturizer — while giving their hands none of it, even though the hands take just as much sun. The result is a measurable gap between how old someone's face looks and how old their hands look. HandScan AI makes that gap visible: you upload a photo of the back of your hand, and in about fifteen seconds you get an estimated biological hand age, a skin grade, a breakdown of five aging markers, and practical guidance on what would help most.
The approach is grounded in published research. A 2024 study in Experimental Dermatology found that AI models estimating age from dorsal hand images achieve a mean absolute error of about 4.7 years — comparable to facial-image analysis. We built HandScan AI to put that capability in front of anyone, free, without an account.
HandScan AI is an independent project operated by Strohm Holdings LLC, a US-based company. It is a small, self-funded team focused on building useful, accurate consumer tools around skin and aging. We are not a medical provider, and HandScan AI is not a diagnostic device.
